HDV News - Jan. 21st

Good afternoon HDV Swim Families,
I can’t believe we are in the home stretch of our season!
I have a lot of information to share.
Please email me if you have any questions.
Thank yous
  • Thank you to the Haworth and O’Neal families for providing team breakfasts for our athletes.
  • Thank our Athletic Director, Mr. Greg Gantt, for visiting our swimmers during practice and bringing donuts for the team.
  • Thank you to all those who have provided transportation to the Watterson and UA meets. The district policy is that we can not have a bus before 4:15 pm. Our athletic secretary, Lori Bruce, always requests an “early bus” for us, hoping a driver will be available.
  • Thank you, Lori Bruce, for all you do behind the scenes for our team.
Sub-sales
  • Our sub-assembly day is Thursday, February 5th, at 3:00 pm in the HDV Commons. All athletes are required to attend. Your swimmer will take home the subs they sold and deliver them.
  • Heather Dauer is the lead on this important fundraiser. Heather will be at practice on Monday, January 26th, to collect order forms and money.
  • We still need volunteers to assemble subs. Please sign up if you can help.https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B044BAEA628A13-61500483-davidson
Competitions Senior NIght
  • This year, Hilliard Darby is hosting the Senior Night meet at the Hilliard Ray Patch YMCA. The following is the information I received from Hilliard Darby.
  • 3:30 pm - The gym will be open for setup.
  • 4:00 pm - Senior families and spectators should arrive. Seniors and your escorts should gather in the hallway between the A & B rooms and the lap pool.
  • 4:30 pm - Senior recognition begins
  • 5:15 pm - Hilliard Davidson warm-up
  • 5:30 pm - 5:45 pm - Hillard Darby and Hilliard Bradley warm-up
  • 5:50 pm - Competition begins.
  • At the end of the meet, all swimmers and their families are invited to gather in the gym for refreshments and to celebrate our Seniors.
  • I am not sure how much spectator seating will be available. If you have someone who needs to sit during the meet, you may want to bring folding chairs.
Coffman/Jerome Meet
  • The meet with Dublin Coffman and Dublin is this Friday, January 23rd, at the Dublin Community Recreation Center, 5600 Post Rd, Dublin, OH 43017. The bus will leave from HDV at 4:45 pm. The team will meet in the HDV commons at 4:30 pm. Our warm-up time is 5:30 pm. Competition will begin at 6:00 pm.
  • Spectators should enter through the natatorium entrance. There will be signage. Please do not enter through the DCRC main entrance.
  • We have been asked to provide timers for this meet. Here is the link.https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0F4FAAA722A3FC1-61769123-coffmanjeromedav#/
OCC - Central Championships
  • Our League championships are on Friday, January 30th, at Upper Arlington High School. Our warm-up is at 4:15 pm, and the competition begins at 5:00 pm.
  • Once again, we will need to use parent drivers. We will meet in the HDV commons at 3:15 pm and depart no later than 3:30 pm. If you are able to drive, please let me know. Once I have enough drivers, I will make the assignments and send the HCSD Travel Form for your signature.
Upper Arlington Invitational
  • The Upper Arlington Invitational is on Saturday, February 7th, at Upper Arlington High School. Our warm-up time is 10:10 am, and the competition begins at 11:00 am.
  • This Invitational has time standards. The following swimmers will not be competing: Macie Arnett, Brody Jasper, Hannah Jasper, Colin Pelecky, and Laken Wenclewicz.
Sectionals and Districts
  • Information on how the Sectional, District, and State tournaments work can be found in our team handbook. The team handbook is on our website under the “Resources” tab.
  • I have not received the final information for our Sectional meet at Worthington or the District meet at Ohio University. The dates I have listed below are correct, but the bus and competition times may change.
  • Boys Sectional - Friday, February 13th at Worthington Pools. Bus departure time is 4:15 pm. Competition begins at 6:00 pm.
  • Girls Sectional - Saturday, February 14th at Worthington Pools. Bus departure time is 7:00 am. Competition begins at 9:00 am.
  • Boys Central District Meet - Saturday, February 14th at Ohio University. Bus departure time is 6:30 am.
  • Girls Central District Meet - Saturday, February 14th at Ohio University. Bus departure time is 12:15 pm.
Miscellaneous
  • The coaches and I spend most of the first part of the season focusing on each swimmer’s stroke, turn, and start technique. We emphasize developing muscle memory. When the athletes race, we want the fundamentals to be automatic. Now we are shifting our focus more towards racing strategy. Yes, we are still teaching and correcting technique. Each of your swimmers has received or will receive a folder with a racing strategies document and a worksheet for them to complete. Those who have received their folder should return it to me by Friday.
  • Each year, the Senior Leadership Team sets a schedule of what the team should wear to school on meet days or the day before a meet. The SLT chooses between spiritwear and dressing up. I shared with the team at the beginning of the season that this activity was not optional. The SLT team shared that very few of our swimmers are dressing according to the STL schedule. This is disappointing. All the swimmers have their Nike jackets and team t-shirts to wear on spiritwear days. I also believe that our swimmers have nice clothes they can wear for dress-up: no sweatpants or sweatshirts, no lounge wear, no flip-flops. As we head into our final meets and the tournament series, I hope all our swimmers will dress for meet days.
Thank you for your continued support,
Go CATS!
