HDV News - Nov. 21st

Good evening, HDV Swim Families,

First, thank you for your understanding with the swim practice cancellation yesterday. Late on Wednesday, I was told that the HCSD Central Office had not yet approved or signed our YMCA rental contract. Without a signed agreement, we could no longer practice until the YMCA received the signed contract from Central Office. I just received a text that we are good to resume swim practices on Monday.

Other than this week's curveball, our season has gotten off to a fantastic start. The Senior Leadership team has done an outstanding job of team building. Your swimmers have been working hard at both in-water and weight room practices. In a short time, the coaches are seeing improvement in technique, endurance, speed, and strength.

Thank-Yous

  • Thank you to the Arnetts for opening up their home for the team's friendsgiving. What an excellent opportunity for our swimmers to connect outside of practices.
  • Thank you to the Arnett and Glover families for providing our team with breakfast. Our athletes truly look forward to Monday breakfasts.

Housekeeping Items

  • If your swimmer does not have a team suit, they must have one before our first competition on Saturday, December 6th. You can purchase our team suit from Swimville USA, 837 Bethel Rd, Columbus, OH 43214.
  • Another item you need to complete before our first competition is payment of the participation fee. You can pay the fee through your Final Forms account. If you have a financial need, please get in touch with Coach Lynn as soon as possible.
  • Reminder: if your swimmer will miss practice, please email Coach Lynn.
  • As we head into winter, we may have mornings with snow and ice. If the district cancels school due to inclement weather, we will not have morning practice. On days when the district cancels school, they typically make decisions regarding afternoon practices or evening competitions by 1:00 pm. When I hear the decision, I will share the information with you immediately.

Thanksgiving Practice Changes

  • Thursday, November 27th - No Practice
  • Friday, November 28th - 7:00 am - 8:30 am (Swim)
  • If you are going out of town for Thanksgiving and your swimmer will not be at practice, please email Coach Lynn.

Competitions

Our first meet is the Ned Reeb Memorial Invitational on Saturday, December 6th, at the Ohio State University McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The meet has an A Flight for swimmers who have the required time cuts and a B Flight. We have three swimmers attending the A-Flight, and the majority of our team will compete in the B-Flight. I have attached the entry report.

We will not have a bus for the A-Flight swimmers.

The bus for the B-Flight swimmers will depart from Davidson at 10:45 am. The team should meet outside the fieldhouse door B7 at 10:30 am. The B-Flight swimmers will return to HDV on the bus. We will send a message via Parent Square with our estimated return time. All swimmers are expected to ride the bus to and from competitions.

Here is the projected timeline

A Flight Prelims: Assigned Warmup (7:00-8:10 am)

Competition (8:20-11:20 am)

B Flight Timed Finals: Assigned Warmup (roughly 30 minutes after A Flight)

Competition (1:15-4:15 pm estimate)

A Flight Finals: Open Warmup (approximately 30 minutes after B Flight)

Competition (5:30-8:00 pm estimate)

Our second competition is the AJ Glover Invitational on Saturday, December 13th at the Mason Municipal Aquatic Center 6249 Mason Montgomery Rd, Mason, OH 45040

The projected timeline is that warmups start at 10:00 am and the meet will start at 11:00 am

Our bus will depart from Hilliard Davidson at 7:30 am. The team should meet outside the fieldhouse door B7 at 7:15 am. The team will return to HDV on the bus. We will send a message via Parent Square with our estimated return time. All swimmers are expected to ride the bus to and from the competition.

Upcoming Service Project

Each season, our Senior Leadership Team organizes and manages a team service project. This year, the Seniors have chosen to adopt a Hilliard family for the Christmas season. Our senior leaders will be sending you the details soon.

In closing, Coach Nick, Coach Cheryl, Coach Mallory, and I are thankful for the privilege to work with your swimmers. You have terrific kids.

Wishing you a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving holiday,

Coach Lynn
